Lenzburg Schloss

Today was our first adventure outside of Basel-Stadt.  We got to the train station early and caught the first train to Lenzburg (read: we managed to purchase our tickets for the correct train AND find that train before it pulled away!).  Once in Lenzburg we had to wait a bit for a bus up to the castle.  It's only a 30 minute walk, which should be doable even with the stroller, but you have to remember that the castle is on top of the highest point in town.  So we waited for the bus.  And the castle and museum were worth every second of our wait.  Chris has named this outing our most successful day out....ever!  Everything about this place is just perfect for kids, and interesting to adults as well.  Five stars in our book, for sure!

On the walk from the bus stop to the actual castle, there is a miniature village.
The kids had fun climbing throughout the little buildings.

Chris waits for the kids to finish playing so that we can continue on to the castle.

On our approach.

Almost there.

Castle!  There were reenactors at every turn.

The kids wanted to head right to the children's museum.  And WOW!  So much fun for the kids to have here.  Seriously, whoever designed this museum deserves a gold star.  Here, Chris explains to Layla how to use a cross-bow.

Josh got right to business making a cardboard sword and Layla transformed into a princess.

Princess Layla and Sir Josh!

Princess Layla works hard on her crown.

Yes, she made two different headdresses.

Sir Josh defends his castle!

Beautiful rose garden.

Layla checks out another garden.

Layla and Josh claim this land for Switzerland  (and for the bag of raisins that Josh couldn't stand to put down).

The view from the top.

The dragon lives!
The kids were quite fearful of this animatronic dragon that we found in the basement.

Our first attempt at a family pic during this trip.
Lesson learned: take the pic at the start of the outing,
before the kids are tired and uncooperative!

We walked back to the train station through the old city portion of Lenzburg.  What a view of the castle!
It seemed to be an adorable little town and I'm already dreaming of returning one day.
